Brian Downey. who maintains the ultimate Antietam website ("Antietam on the Web" and its companion blog "behind AotW"), has just posted (August 25) an important study on "individual soldiers who died on the Maryland Campaign of 1862."

He observes "as far as I know there is no single, comprehensive list anywhere."

Brian's initial list contains over 2,700 names--less than 1/3 of those who died.

Bookmark his site, since he promises to post new editions of "The Dead List" periodically.

New Maryland Campaign Blog Opens

A new blog on the Maryland Campaign has opened. Civil War Ink promises to explore various aspects of the campaign--from personalities on the field to the actions on South Mountain.

Currently the author is profiling twelve former members of the 36th and 37th Congresses that  participated in the Campaign. William Barksdale, who represented Mississippi in the 36th Congress, is the most recent posting.

Examining U.S. Congressmen at Antietam provides an interesting perspective on the complex events surrounding the Maryland Campaign.
